Georgian PM: it is not European Parliament’s role to evaluate decisions of Georgian people

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Thursday said that the European Parliament should respect the decisions made by Georgian voters and refrain from assessing the country’s internal political choices.
Speaking to journalists, Kobakhidze emphasised that Georgia already has a democratically elected government that represents the interests of its citizens.
He argued that external political actors cannot alter this reality, regardless of how many individuals within the European Parliament may express differing opinions.
“It has been about 2 years since the parliamentary elections, and when a specific person speaks in various terms at such a time, it is smile-inducing. Everyone knows very well that Georgia has a government elected by the people, which expresses the interests of the Georgian people; one specific member of the European Parliament, or even several members, cannot change this reality. In general, it is not the business of the European Parliament to evaluate the decisions of the Georgian people. The MEPs may be offended by this or that decision of the Georgian people, but they must respect such a decision”, he concluded.
