Georgian PM: record-low unemployment reflects Georgia’s strong economic growth

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Thursday said the country’s rapid economic growth had contributed to improvements across a range of indicators, including a historically low unemployment rate.
When asked about the International Monetary Fund’s report that unemployment in Georgia has reached a historic low, Kobakhidze emphasised that sustaining a high rate of economic growth remains his government's primary priority.
“The key factor behind everything is economic growth. As you know, the economy has been growing rapidly over the past five years. Georgia’s economy was worth $16 billion in 2020, and today it exceeds $38 billion. Naturally, rapid economic growth leads to improvements across various indicators, and we now have the lowest unemployment rate in our history”, he said.
“Therefore, the main focus going forward should be on maintaining a high pace of economic growth, and the government is working very actively toward that goal”, Kobakhidze concluded.
