Georgian PM says says public no longer reacts to ‘unfair’ resolutions

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Tuesday dismissed a recent Council of Europe resolution as unfair and said such documents no longer generate any reaction from the public.

In his remarks, Kobakhidze noted that similar resolutions adopted by the Council of Europe and the European Parliament have become routine and no longer attract significant public attention in Georgia.

“We know what kind of process precedes the adoption of such resolutions and how fair such resolutions are. Precisely because all such acts are unfair, society no longer even has any reaction to such documents, therefore, all this is not interesting to me either”, the PM said.

“The non-governmental sector is already an incomprehensible term, the non-governmental sector is all those people who are not part of the Government sector, and there are approximately 3.5 million people like that in Georgia. In general, everything that these people are talking about, what is discussed in the resolution, is absurd. As for democracy, Georgia is a leader in terms of democracy, not only among [EU membership] candidate countries. This is the reality and the rest of what is written in the resolution is not interesting”, he concluded.
