Georgian Parliament official dismisses Joe Wilson’s resolution as “not worth paper it’s printed on”

Archil Gorduladze, the Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s Committee on Legal Affairs, on Tuesday criticised the resolution initiated by US Congressman Joe Wilson, stating that such documents are worthless, reveal more about their authors than about reality, and further erode trust in international institutions.
In his interview with Imedi TV, Gorduladze argued that resolutions of this kind say far more about their authors and recipients than about the actual situation in Georgia.
“These resolutions are not even worth the paper they are printed on. Such resolutions say much more about their author and recipient than about the existing reality, and especially to Georgian society, when they are told that we know better what is happening in your country and, moreover, we know better how Georgia’s future should develop - while the Constitution of Georgia directly states that the only source of power and the main decision-maker in this country is the Georgian people. Such resolutions further diminish trust in European institutions, which is very unfortunate”, Gorduladze said.
The MP noted that such documents could not bring about a change of government in Georgia and are primarily intended to generate “news” for opposition-controlled television channels.
“Their goal is one - to create news in TV channels controlled by the United National Movement, and then for statements by United National Movement members to follow. They need something to talk about, don’t they?”, he said.
The official also criticised resolutions adopted by Eurocrats, claiming that they are not worth the paper on which they are written.
Gorduladze called it comical that Joe Wilson criticises Georgia’s transparency law while remaining silent on the similar American FARA legislation.
The comments came after the Democracy, Human Rights and Humanitarian Questions Committee of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly approved a draft resolution on Georgia initiated by Joe Wilson.
