Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Thursday announced that the first phase of the Anaklia Deep Sea Port is slated for completion by 2029, characterising the project as a significant catalyst for the country’s economic potential.
In an interview with Imedi TV, Prime Minister Kobakhidze emphasized that under the landlord model, the port will remain 100% Georgian-owned, with terminal operations delegated to a consortium of international partners.
He further added that ongoing reforms within the Ministry of Infrastructure have significantly enhanced both the quality and efficiency of infrastructure development, expressing full confidence in the successful delivery of key national projects.
“We have several large-scale projects, including the Anaklia Port, whose first phase should be completed by 2029. This will significantly strengthen Georgia’s economic potential”, Kobakhidze said.
“The port will be Georgian, with 100% Georgian ownership. At the same time, the terminals will be operated by various partners. Interest in this model is very high, and it ensures that Georgia’s national interests are fully protected while maximizing cargo attraction”, he noted.
Kobakhidze added that attracting cargo is the key factor for the port’s successful operation, noting that maintaining Georgian ownership while involving multiple international partners would provide a strong guarantee for increasing cargo volumes.
“The decision has no drawbacks. On the contrary, it is an ideal model that will allow the Anaklia Port to operate in the most effective way”, he concluded.
