Maka Botchorishvili, the Chair of the European Integration Committee of the Georgian Parliament, on Sunday said the domestic law on transparency of foreign influence was in “full compliance” with both Georgian interests and European standards.
“If they read and understand this law well and understand correctly what is the objective basis of this law, I think everyone will understand that it does not have anything against European values and standards, but on the contrary, it is fully compatible with dealing with the very challenges for which it was created , and is in full compliance with both Georgian interests and European standards”, Botchorishvili said.
Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili on Monday formally signed the domestic law on transparency of foreign influence.
The newly enacted law introduces clear requirements for non-commercial entities and media organisations in Georgia, mandating registration and financial disclosures for those receiving 20 percent of foreign funding.
