Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili on Tuesday addressed the anniversary of the establishment of the Western and Eastern Commands of the Georgian Defence Forces.

In his message, President Kavelashvili emphasised the heroic and courageous service of Georgian soldiers in defending their homeland, both historically and in the present day.

“Today marks the anniversary of the establishment of the Western and Eastern Commands of the Georgian Defense Forces! I am pleased to celebrate this important date at the 2nd Infantry Brigade in Senaki, alongside the Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Irakli Chikovani, leaders of the Defense Forces, and our soldiers”, the President said.

The President highlighted the significance of the transformation of the ground forces into two strong and cohesive autonomous structures - the Western and Eastern Commands. He stated that this reorganisation was a crucial step in optimizing and strengthening Georgia's defense capabilities, playing a significant role in enhancing the country's defense readiness and development.

“Our soldiers have always heroically and courageously defended and continue to defend our homeland. Along with ensuring the peace of our country, international security is also important, and I am pleased that our military personnel have made a significant contribution to maintaining global peace”, he continued.

He also paid tribute to the Georgian heroes who sacrificed themselves for the territorial integrity of Georgia and the preservation of peace worldwide, vowing that their bravery and dedication would never be forgotten.

“We will always remember the Georgian heroes who have sacrificed themselves for the territorial integrity of our country and for global stability. Their bravery and dedication will never be forgotten. There is no duty more honorable or patriotic than serving one’s homeland. I extend my deepest respect and gratitude to every soldier who serves Georgia with loyalty, integrity, and an immense sense of responsibility. Their professionalism and dedication are the pillars of our country’s stability and peace”, he concluded.
