The South Caucasus region is gaining increasing strategic importance thanks to its connectivity and cooperation potential, and Georgia continues to strengthen its historic role as a regional bridge, Georgian president Mikheil Kavelashvili said on Wednesday while addressing the plenary session of a regional ecological summit in Astana.

In his address, Kavelashvili noted that Georgia has historically connected regions, cultures, and markets, and is reinforcing this function by creating a stable and predictable environment where long-term development brings tangible benefits to all stakeholders.

“Georgia, which has historically connected broad regions, cultures, and markets, continues to reinforce this role by creating a stable and predictable environment where long-term development brings tangible benefits to all stakeholders”, he said.

“For Georgia, sustainable development is not only an international obligation but also a key priority of state policy. Therefore, the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals are an integral part of the country’s long-term development vision”, the president continued.

Kavelashvili added that Georgia’s cooperation with the United Nations played a crucial role in this process.

“Georgia was among the first countries to present its Voluntary National Review at the High-Level Political Forum, which confirms our consistent support for the 2030 Agenda”, he noted.

The president further stressed the importance of Georgia’s support for peace and stability, which has driven high economic growth in recent years.

“However, effective governance systems and strong institutional frameworks lose value without peace and stability. We believe this is especially important in today’s unstable global environment, which poses serious challenges to development and international cooperation”, Kavelashvili said.

“Georgia continues to firmly support peace, stability, and constructive dialogue, which has contributed to high economic growth in recent years”, he added.

Kavelashvili highlighted that this stability was based not only on economic indicators but also on strong institutions, a predictable political environment, the rule of law, and a firm commitment to international obligations.

“With its strategic location and active participation in regional and international initiatives, Georgia is strengthening its role as a reliable bridge that promotes connectivity, energy security, and broader regional cooperation”, the president noted.

“In conclusion, Georgia reaffirms its readiness to cooperate closely with all partners to ensure a peaceful and sustainable future”, Kavelashvili concluded.
