Georgian PM to Trump: sanctions remain in force against officials who prevented attempted “revolution, violence” planned by Biden administration, financed through USAID

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Tuesday addressed an open letter to the United States President Donald Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance, stressing that the completely incomprehensible sanctions against Georgia’s Deputy Prime Minister and other government officials remained in force - sanctions imposed for effectively preventing the attempted revolution and violence planned by the Biden administration and financed through USAID.

In his open letter, Kobakhidze further noted that just a few days ago, the US Congress passed an absurd law - the so-called Friendship Act, calling it “absurd” and “hostile toward the Georgian people and their democratically elected government”.

“Just a few days ago, the US Congress passed an absurd law - the so-called Friendship Act - which is deeply hostile toward the Georgian people and the government they democratically elected. Given the meaning of the word “friend,” this law brings to mind George Orwell’s model, in which war is peace and an enemy is a friend”, the PM said.

“We have become accustomed to absurd acts adopted by various parliaments in recent times and under normal circumstances, we wouldn’t even have paid attention to the Friendship Act - were it not for the fact that many actors attribute this legislation to your administration”, he continued.

“That perception is further reinforced by the fact that your administration has not issued a single critical statement regarding the Act. As a result, this law diminishes the trust of the Georgian people not only in Congress, but - regrettably - in your administration as well, which the Georgian public had viewed with a different kind of hope”, Kobakhidze concluded.
