Washington D.C. Mayor congratulates Georgia on Independence Day

Muriel Bowser, the Mayor Washington D.C, on Monday extended her congratulations to Georgia on the occasion of its Independence Day.

In a statement, the Embassy of Georgia in the United States noted that Mayor Bowser had officially designated May 26 as Georgia’s Independence Day in Washington D.C.

The Embassy further released an official proclamation signed by the mayor to mark the occasion.

“Whereas, Georgia is a vital member of the global community for its advancement of strong democratic values, dynamic economic development, and its strategic global cooperation; and

Whereas, our vibrant Georgian American community contributes enormously to the cultural diversity and economic strength of our nation, sharing their heritage, traditions, and achievements; and

Whereas, in celebration of our invaluable cultural connections and cultural exchange with the Georgian community, we join the people of Georgia and the Georgian diaspora in celebrating the 107* Anniversary of Georgia's independence:

Now, therefore, I, the Mayor of Washington D.C, do hereby proclaim May 26, 2025, as Georgia Independence Day in Washington D.C”, the Proclamation said.

Georgia’s Independence Day is celebrated annually on May 26. This date commemorates the adoption of the Act of Independence on May 26, 1918, when the Democratic Republic of Georgia was established following the collapse of the Russian Empire. The Act declared Georgia’s independence, marking a significant moment in the nation’s history.
