Irakli Kadagishvili, the Chair of the Regional Policy and Self-Government Committee of the Georgian Parliament, on Sunday criticised the European Parliament for what he called “disinformation and distortion of reality”.
Kadagishvili’s comments came in response to comments by MEP Nacho Sánchez Amor, who recently stated that sanctioned individuals from Georgia have been reaching out to the EU and various NGOs to inquire about ways to be removed from sanctions lists.
In his remarks, Kadagishvili accused the EU bureaucracy of attempting to bring a puppet government to power in Georgia.
“These are extremely superficial resolutions and equally superficial statements. This seemingly grand European Parliament is engaged in gossip, falsifying facts, and distorting reality. What more can we say? We tell them that such resolutions and statements have no value in Georgia. On the contrary, they have a negative impact. Their attitude has significantly reduced public trust in the European Union”, the official said.
He further added that the decline was not in trust towards Europe as such, but in the actions of EU bureaucracy.
“If they had any real evidence, they would have repeated it nine times by now. Their aim is to bring in a puppet government. We can see the war [in Ukraine] does not stop, and sadly, the interest of these bureaucrats toward Georgia remains unchanged”, Kadagishvili concluded.
