Georgian PM accuses European bureaucracy of double standards

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Monday recalled past reactions from European bureaucracy to developments in Georgia, noting that, at the time, European institutions issued special statements about events in the country while ignoring the violent actions that had preceded those developments.

In his remarks, Kobakhidze noted that European officials failed to address the violent protests that came before the events in question and, instead, unfairly accused Georgian law enforcement agencies over specific incidents.

“You may recall that at the time, the European bureaucracy was notable for making extraordinary statements about the developments in Georgia. They said nothing about the violent actions that preceded those events, and you will also remember that our law enforcement officers were unfairly accused in connection with specific incidents. This is what we remember from European bureaucracy. Double standards exist everywhere. This is the general comment I can make”, the PM said.
