Georgian Parliament Speaker claims EU bureaucracy harming European project

Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili on Wednesday sharply criticised Eurocrats, claiming that their current rhetoric and “hostile policy” toward the Georgian people were ultimately undermining the integrity of the European Union itself.
Speaking to reporters, Papuashvili suggested that the actions of certain figures in Brussels were counterproductive to the European project.
“To hell with the Brussels bureaucracy, but we are concerned about two things: first, that certain bureaucrats distinguished by their hostile policy against the Georgian people do not damage our country; and second, that they do not damage the European Union, which we aspire toward”, the Speaker said.
“When true Europeans, patriots, and people rooted in European values take leading positions in EU institutions - for the sake of Georgia's European perspective - we do not want to find an Europe that is emptied of values; an Europe that has been transformed from a peace project into a war project”, Papuashvili concluded.
