“Seven shots, seven misses”: Georgian Parliament official slams latest EU Parliament resolution

Archil Gorduladze, the chair of the Georgian Parliament’s legal affairs committee, on Thursday slammed the European Parliament’s latest resolution against Georgia, characterising it as a failed assault on the country’s sovereignty.
Gorduladze’s comments came after the European Parliament adopted a resolution condemning what it described as the “systematic persecution of political opponents and journalists” in Georgia by the ruling Georgian Dream party, and calling for the release of opposition politician Elene Khoshtaria.
In his interview with Imedi TV, Gorduladze noted that this marks the seventh time a resolution of this nature has been passed, arguing that European lawmakers have completely lost touch with reality.
“They have fired at our country's sovereignty seven times, and seven times they have missed”, the official said, emphasising that “high-flown statements” no longer have an impact on Georgia.
The MP dismissed the content of the resolutions as fabrications, specifically citing the characterization of Mikheil Saakashvili as a political prisoner and the descriptions of David Kezerashvili and Nika Gvaramia as “media managers”.
“Now we have heard that apparently Elene Khoshtaria is also a political prisoner, and at the same time we remember Markéta Gregorová saying that she supposedly had no idea that Khoshtaria is funded from the state budget of Russia”, he continued.
“They [MEPs] cannot see the geopolitical shifts taking place in the world. In reality, no one even asks them. We saw how the so-called debates were conducted, where only a few people spoke and yet they packaged it as a debate”, Gorduladze noted.
He further argued that Brussels is currently under “external management” and is serving the interests of “global forces” rather than acting independently.
