Georgian prime minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Monday said the domestic law on family values and the protection of minors was in full compliance with legal principles and maintained there is “no basis whatsoever” for its revision.

“The law on family values and the protection of minors opposes the adoption or foster care of minors by LGBT individuals, the use of medical manipulations for the purpose of gender reassignment, the arbitrary changing of gender records in identification documents, the promotion of non-traditional relationships by educational institutions or the media, etc. This law is in full compliance with legal principles and there is no basis for its revision”, the PM said.

In his remarks, Kobakhidze recalled that during the violent rallies, several cases of disproportionate use of force by law enforcement officials were recorded, which also contained signs of a criminal offense, but the investigation was unable to identify the relevant individuals.

He highlighted that the Georgian authorities had taken appropriate measures to prevent such violations, which was why significant changes have been made to the Ministry’s system.

“We would like to remind you once again that as a result of the measures taken, on October 4, 2025 the government was able to completely avoid incidents and countered the violent coup attempt with the highest standards”, the PM added.

The government head further claimed that critical statements made by representatives of the government towards the opposition, so-called NGOs or specific ambassadors were always a response to the anti-state and anti-democratic actions of the opposition, the radical political activities of the so-called NGOs and the flagrant violation of the Vienna Convention by foreign ambassadors.

“In such conditions, the voice of the government, naturally, cannot be silenced by the call of a biased foreign expert. The Georgian government will continue to loudly defend the country’s national interests in the future”, he stressed.

“The rule of law in Georgia will not be subject to political conjuncture in the future and will be firmly protected. Standards of media objectivity must be protected in Georgia and 150 political activists must not have the right to use violence against the rest of the population. Therefore, the relevant legislation should not only remain in place, but should also be strictly enforced”, he concluded.
