Georgian prime minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Monday claimed European bureaucracy was acting not in accordance with European interests, but at the dictation of external forces.

In his remarks, Kobakhidze pointed to the shrinking share of the European economy as evidence of failed leadership, claiming that this “external interference” has led to a dramatic decline in the EU's global economic standing.

“The whole world is in chaos. One of the main victims in this chaos is Europe, the European people, the population of Europe. First of all, this chaos has had a very heavy economic impact on the European continent and specifically on the European Union”, the PM said.

“At such a time, the EU bureaucracy should be trying to find new ways, including to deepen trade and economic relations and political partnership, and when, on the contrary, in such conditions, the European bureaucracy is trying to cut ties, including trade and economic, strategic lines, this indicates that the European bureaucracy is acting not in accordance with European interests, but at the dictation of external forces, which is absolutely clear”, he continued.

The PM noted that the European economy’s share of the global GDP has plummeted from 30% to 17.5%.

He concluded that these figures serve as a clear indicator that “European sovereignty is at a very low point”.
