Elene Khoshtaria sentenced to 18 months of imprisonment
The court has found Elene Khoshtaria, the leader of the opposition Droa party, guilty of damaging an election banner belonging to the mayor of Tbilisi Kakha Kaladze, sentencing her to one year and six months of imprisonment.
According to the judge's verdict, Khoshtaria is expected to leave the penitentiary facility in one year, accounting for time already served.
While the politician was scheduled to exercise her right to a final statement during today’s session, she did not attend the announcement of the verdict, continuing her absence from the legal proceedings.
Law enforcement officers arrested Khoshtaria on September 15, 2025.
Khoshtaria was charged under Article 187, part 1 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which pertains to the damage or destruction of another person’s property resulting in substantial harm.
Prior to the final sentencing, the court had initially ordered a 5,000 GEL bail as a preventative measure. However, Khoshtaria refused to pay the amount, choosing instead to remain in custody until the conclusion of the trial.
