Parliament official: attempts to sanction Georgian TV channels part of plan to “suppress information”

Gia Volski, an MP from the ruling Georgian Dream party and the first vice speaker of the Parliament, on Wednesday said that the demand to impose sanctions on three Georgian television channels was not accidental but part of a coordinated effort to “suppress information” and draw Georgia into the global confrontation.

In an interview with Imedi TV, Volski asserted that there was an active plan to exploit Georgia’s strategic role in the Middle Corridor for the current global confrontation.

“When there is a specific plan to use Georgia, through its Middle Corridor, in this global-level confrontation, we should not talk about any double standards”, he said.

The official claimed that a kind of “headquarters of conspirators” operated against Georgia, involving many local citizens who are planning how to execute specific tasks aimed at the country.

“Discussions are underway. There is a kind of headquarters of conspirators working against Georgia, where a significant number of our country’s citizens are involved, planning how to accomplish the task they have set in this direction”, Volski noted.

“It did not work - they could not involve us in the confrontation that exists in the world today. A change of government is sought, and many nuances are needed for that. Previous attempts failed; everyone found guilty was arrested. They decided to target Imedi and other media outlets in a propaganda-driven way, as well as the Church, which helps this government maintain the position that is the only guarantee of the stability we have today”, he continued.

This development, according to Volski, shaped a new strategic direction called “suppress the information”, which was one of the main lines of action being pursued by these forces.
