Georgian Parliament official warns of campaigns targeting Georgian Orthodox Church

Archil Gorduladze

Archil Gorduladze, the chair of the Georgian Parliament’s legal affairs committee, on Thursday commented on ongoing campaigns by certain groups against the Georgian Orthodox Church and the late Patriarch Ilia II, stressing that the goal of these forces was to prevent the existence of institutions in the country that the Georgian people can trust and rely upon.

“Attacks on the Georgian Orthodox Church are not new; such campaigns happen periodically. Their aim is to ensure that there is no institution in this country that enjoys the support and trust of the Georgian people. When there are no individuals with such backing, that is precisely when the nation begins to weaken. Certain forces seek to extend their influence not only within our country but across the world,”, he said.
