Georgian delegation to bring Holy Fire from Jerusalem for Easter celebrations

Due to existing regulations, a small delegation from Georgia is traveling to Jerusalem to bring back the Holy Fire for the Easter celebrations.

Upon arrival in Georgia, the Holy Fire will be taken to Sioni Cathedral, where the Easter liturgy will be conducted by Metropolitan Shio, the Locum Tenens of the Patriarchal Throne.

The day marks Holy Saturday, when the Orthodox Church commemorates the burial of Christ.

Earlier in the day, churches held the procession of the Shroud and burial services. During the liturgy, clergy change their vestments from black to bright colors, symbolizing the approaching Resurrection.

Later in the evening, the Easter liturgy will begin at 11:00 pm, followed at midnight by the traditional procession and the Matins service, marking the celebration of Christ’s Resurrection.
