Mariam Kvrivishvili, the minister of economy and sustainable development of Georgia, on Friday described her one-day working visit to Armenia as highly productive, with meetings emphasising Georgia’s pivotal contribution to peace and connectivity in the South Caucasus.
In her remarks, Kvrivishvili characterised the meetings as very productive, covering both existing projects and future plans to further expand trade, economic cooperation.
“As part of her visit to the Republic of Armenia, we held very productive meetings. We thoroughly discussed ongoing projects as well as new plans that will further deepen trade and economic relations between our countries, as well as people-to-people ties”, she said.
During the visit, Kvrivishvili met with Armenia’s deputy prime minister Tigran Khachatryan, minister of economy Gevorg Papoyan, and minister of territorial administration and infrastructure David Khudatyan.
As the minister noted, discussions with members of the Armenian government focused on priority areas of bilateral relations, including tourism, aviation, and transport. Particular emphasis was placed on railway cooperation.
“At the meetings, Georgia’s role in strengthening peace and connectivity in the region was especially highlighted. Particular attention was drawn to Georgia’s contribution through the introduction of a symbolic tariff, which facilitates the transportation of oil products from Azerbaijan to Armenia”, she noted.
Kvrivishvili highlighted that discussions with Armenian colleagues also covered deepening cooperation in the energy sector, including the implementation of joint infrastructure projects.
“This will strengthen energy trade between Georgia and Armenia, including export-import operations, as well as Georgia’s role as a transit country, which significantly supports both the export of electricity from Armenia and transit through Georgia”, she said.
The minister expressed interest in increasing the presence of Georgian products in the Armenian market and boosting export dynamics in the near future.
“We want to see more Georgian products in Armenia, and for this we will continue close cooperation with our colleagues. We believe that in the coming period we will see a growing dynamic of exports of Georgian products from Georgia”, she concluded.
