Georgian FM says US talks focus on “reset” of relations, another delegation due in May

Georgian foreign minister Maka Botchorishvili on Thursday said that recent talks with a US state department delegation focused on key issues related to the process of “resetting” relations between Georgia and the United States.
Speaking after a meeting involving Georgian prime minister Irakli Kobakhidze and US deputy assistant secretary of state Sonata Coulter, Botchorishvili said both sides discussed priority areas for future cooperation.
She noted that the visit by the United States department of state delegation was aimed at exploring how bilateral cooperation can be further developed and strengthened.
“We discussed issues that are important in the process of resetting relations between Georgia and the United States”, Botchorishvili said, adding that future steps were also reviewed during the meeting.
According to her, another US delegation is expected to visit Georgia at the end of May, during which more detailed discussions will be held on the next stages of cooperation between the two countries.
Botchorishvili emphasised that both sides recognise the importance of continuing relations based on mutual respect and pragmatic cooperation.
“It is notable that both sides understand how important it is to continue relations based on respect and pragmatic cooperation, which is very important”, she said, adding that similar messages were heard from the US side as well.
