Georgian Economy Minister Mariam Kvrivishvili on Saturday said that Georgia’s strategic role as a transit and logistics hub between Asia and Europe was strongly emphasised during the official visit of the Georgian government delegation to Tajikistan, led by Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze.
In her remarks, Kvrivishvili highlighted that a series of bilateral meetings and agreements were concluded, aimed at strengthening economic cooperation between the two countries.
“During the official visit to Tajikistan, important bilateral meetings were held, and significant agreements were signed that will strengthen economic ties between the two countries”, she said.
The Minister further highlighted that one of the key outcomes of the visit was the signing of an airspace agreement and noted that this step would help accelerate the establishment of direct flights between the capitals of the two countries, improving both business and tourism links.
“During the meetings, great attention was paid to strengthening ties between Georgia and Tajikistan in the tourism sector, which will of course also ensure the strengthening of economic relations”, Kvrivishvili noted.
She further underlined that Georgia’s position as a connecting corridor between Asia and Europe was a central theme in the talks.
In this context, Kvrivishvili pointed to major infrastructure projects currently underway in Georgia, including transport and logistics modernisation efforts.
“Among them were the Anaklia deep-sea port project and the modernisation of Georgian Railways, which are of great importance and value to our partner countries, as they will be able to connect to their export markets via Georgia”, the Minister concluded.
