Georgian Parliament official describes Brussels meeting as productive

Levan Makhashvili, the Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s Committee on European Integration, on Friday described the meeting between Georgian and European Commission delegations in Brussels as productive, saying it provided an opportunity to explain Georgia's decisions and their legal context after months without engagement.

In his remarks, Makhashvili noted that the discussions focused on issues of concern to both Brussels and the Georgian side.

“I would say that, despite everything, it was a productive meeting. Against the backdrop of several months without communication, we had the opportunity to discuss, in a businesslike manner and through legal arguments, all the accumulated issues that have concerned either the European Union or Georgia in relation to Brussels over the past year and a half”, he said.

“We had the opportunity to explain to Brussels, from a legal perspective, the motivation behind each decision, its context, and other relevant considerations. We remain ready for constructive and fair dialogue in any format. Ultimately, restoring political dialogue will be important, including for a more in-depth and productive discussion of these types of issues”, Makhashvili concluded.

During the meeting held within the framework of the visa dialogue between the Georgian and European Commission delegations, the Georgian side presented its positions.

Georgia once again reaffirmed its readiness to continue constructive cooperation with the European Union based on mutual respect, equality and shared interests.
