Georgian PM says criticism of Georgia-China relations by Joe Wilson “illogical” as both Georgia and US seek to deepen ties with Beijing

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Friday said that the opposition United National Movement party and US Congressman Joe Wilson “have the same patron” and are “being directed from the same source”, receiving instructions from the same actors. As a result, he argued, their statements are synchronised.

In his remarks, Kobakhidze noted that Georgia and the United States are working together to deepen relations with China, making Wilson’s criticism of Georgia’s efforts to strengthen ties with Beijing “completely illogical”.

“Ultimately, this is the influence of what we call the ‘Global War Party’, and what is referred to in the United States as the ‘Deep State’. As for the messages concerning China, Georgia and the United States are jointly seeking to deepen relations with China. Under such circumstances, when Joe Wilson, who represents the ruling party, attacks Georgia for strengthening its relations with China, it is completely illogical”, he said.

“There is only one reason for this inconsistency: he is carrying out orders and directives that run counter to the interests of our people and our national interests. However, just as Joe Wilson’s statements have never carried any particular weight, they will continue to have no special significance in the future”, the Prime Minister concluded.
