World Bank's Worldwide Governance Indicators mark new historic high for Georgia with Government Effectiveness

The World Bank’s Worldwide Governance Indicators published a Government Effectiveness Indicator, marking a new historic high for Georgia.

Georgia earned 77.9 percent on a 100 percent assessment system and ranked 35th out of 189 countries.

The Indicator revealed that Georgia was outperforming one country from the G7, 12 members of the European Union, 14 members of NATO and all European Union membership candidate countries.

Georgia ranks first in the Caucasus and the Black Sea region, and in the post-Soviet space it only falls behind Lithuania and Estonia.

The research also includes the Control of Corruption Indicator in which Georgia earned 71.2 percent on a 100 percent assessment system and ranked first in the Caucasus and the Black Sea region.

The Control of Corruption indicator revealed that Georgia was outperforming one country from G7, 10 members of the European Union, 12 members of NATO and all European Union membership candidate countries. In the post-Soviet countries, Georgia is second only to Baltic states.

Nine international assessment centres evaluated Georgia in the Control of Corruption aggregate, which placed the country in the best platoons, or among the best platoons in Europe by seven assessments out of nine organisations.

The research also includes the Rule of Law Indicator, which revealed that Georgia is outperforming five members of NATO and all European Union membership candidate countries. In the post-Soviet countries, Georgia is fourth only to Baltic states and is second only to Romania in the Black Sea region.

The research also included the Regulatory Quality indicator, which scored Georgia with 79.7 percent on a 100 percent evaluation system and ranked 32nd among 189 World Bank member countries and 19th among the top 20 in Europe.

The Worldwide Governance Indicators (WGI) is a research database that is fully based on various global ratings and assessments. It describes broad patterns in perceptions of the quality of governance across countries and over time. The World Governance Indicators are based on existing data sources produced by more than 30 think tanks, international organisations, nongovernmental organisations, and private firms around the world. The data sources:

1. produce original primary data using their own well-defined methodologies,
2. report respondents’ perceptions of relevant dimensions of governance,
3. cover multiple countries,
4. are regularly updated.

The data reflect the diverse views of tens of thousands of survey respondents and experts worldwide.

Worldwide Governance indicators assess 214 countries and territories globally, including 189 World Bank member states.
