Levan Makhashvili, the Chair of the Committee on European Integration of the Georgian Parliament, on Monday said that while the country’s priority remained cooperation with Western businesses, it was equally important to acknowledge the evolving global landscape, noting “we must not miss the potential benefits that Georgia-China relations can bring”.
In his remarks regarding the memorandum signed between the central banks of Georgia and China, Makhashvili highlighted that as China and other countries continued to develop and emerge as key financial players, it was logical that such opportunities remained accessible to our businesses and society.
“This is part of our strategic partnership with China. Our approach to this partnership is based on a specific agenda and specific initiatives, including financial cooperation, air travel, cargo transportation, and visa-free travel”, Makhashvili concluded.
The National Bank of Georgia and the People's Bank of China on Saturday signed a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at expanding and strengthening bilateral cooperation.
The agreement was signed by Natia Turnava, the Governor of the National Bank of Georgia, and Pan Gongsheng, the Governor of the Central Bank of China. The MoU was signed as part of the Georgian National Bank delegation's visit to China, led by Turnava.
