Georgia marks Day of Family Purity and Respect for Parents

Georgia marks the Day of Family Purity and Respect for Parents with gatherings and public processions taking place across the country under the blessing of the Georgian Orthodox Church.

The Georgian Patriarchate announced that events connected to May 17 would begin with general gatherings at 10:00 a.m. in ten Georgian cities.

According to the Patriarchate, simultaneous public processions are scheduled to start at 11:00 a.m. in Tbilisi, Rustavi, Kutaisi, Gori, Batumi, Akhaltsikhe, Zugdidi, Telavi, Mtskheta, and Ozurgeti.

The events are being held with the blessing of the Patriarch Shio III.

Family Purity and Respect for Parents Day was established in 2014 by the late Patriarch Ilia II.
