Strategic partnership between Georgia, Armenia key to national, regional stability, says Georgian Foreign Minister

Georgia and Armenia’s newly established strategic partnership is a natural extension of the countries’ long-standing friendship and mutual respect, said on Friday Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili following a meeting with her Armenian counterpart Ararat Mirzoyan.

In her remarks, Botchorishvili noted the discussions covered the special friendship and good-neighbour relations between the two states.

The officials reviewed prospects for future cooperation as well as issues of regional and global significance.

Speaking about bilateral relations, Botchorishvili highlighted that political dialogue between Georgia and Armenia was at the highest level, and visits were characterised by positive dynamics.

She underlined that the Georgia-Armenia Strategic Partnership Declaration elevated the already strong relations and cooperation to a qualitatively new stage.

“2025 has been a dynamic year in relations between our countries. We can confidently say that the friendship of our peoples and the ties between our states are fully reflected in the intensity of our political dialogue”, the Minister said.

The foreign ministers further discussed the situation in the region and the importance of joint efforts to address security challenges. In this context, they positively assessed the Georgia-Azerbaijan-Armenia trilateral meeting held in April 2025 in Tbilisi at the level of deputy foreign ministers.

Botchorishvili further emphasised that Georgia had always played a committed role in promoting stable and peaceful development in the region and would continue contributing to the strengthening of regional cooperation.

“Georgia welcomes the peace agreement signed between Armenia and Azerbaijan on 8 August in Washington. This historic agreement represents a major step toward establishing lasting peace in the South Caucasus and opens up new opportunities for the region’s long-term and stable development”, the Minister noted.

The meeting further focused on trade and economic relations between Georgia and Armenia and on the region’s transit potential. It was noted with satisfaction that Armenia ranks among Georgia’s top ten trade partners and is among the top three in the field of tourism.

The sides also reviewed cooperation in transport, tourism, culture, education and other areas.

This is Mirzoyan’s second official visit to Georgia.

During the visit, Mirzoyan will meet with President Mikheil Kavelashvili, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze and Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili.

The Armenian Foreign Minister will also lay a wreath at the Memorial of Heroes Fallen for the Unity of Georgia.
