Georgian Parliament Speaker says “Georgian Maduro” serves sentence in Rustavi’s prison, in reference to former President Mikheil Saakashvili

Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili on Wednesday responded to the detention of Nicolás Maduro, the President of Venezuela, by saying that “Georgian Maduro” was serving a sentence in Rustavi’s prison, in reference to the imprisoned former President Mikheil Saakashvili.

Speaking on international security, Papuashvili said that no real system of global security exists and that all countries act according to their national interests.

He added that the European Union no longer functions as a global power and, with its current policies, can never become one.

“Georgia is not a global power, so our assessment of global processes has no significance. There is no international security system, everyone acts in accordance with their national interests. The European Union, as a global power, no longer exists and with such a policy it will never become a global power”, the Speaker said.

“This is what we need to observe and reflect upon. Instead of waving the flags of foreign countries, we should raise the Georgian flag. Everyone should turn to Georgian values. We have seen what foreign values have brought. Let’s focus on Georgian values and rely on what, for example, the Patriarch said in yesterday’s epistle about many problematic issues, including the language of hatred in Georgia, and move forward from there”, he concluded.
