Maia Bitadze appointed Georgia’s Minister of Culture

Maia Bitadze has been appointed Georgia’s Minister of Culture, moving to the post from her previous role as Chair of Parliament’s Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Committee.

Bitadze thanked Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze and the ruling team for the confidence they had placed in her, describing the appointment as both a significant responsibility and a mark of trust.

“This decision is a great responsibility and a great sign of trust for me”, Bitadze said.

“I fully understand the level of responsibility I now carry before both the team and every person who contributes to Georgian culture”, she added.

According to Bitadze, culture extends far beyond artistic creation and the preservation of heritage, serving as a cornerstone of national identity and a means through which Georgia presents itself to the world.

“Culture is not only about creativity and cultural heritage; it is also part of our nation’s identity and the language through which we should speak to the entire world”, she said.

Bitadze noted that she assumes the role with years of public service experience and a strong commitment to engaging with cultural professionals and others working in the sector.

“I am entering this field with many years of public service experience and with a strong desire to listen to every person who creates Georgian culture, who is a professional in the field, who cares deeply about it and loves it”, she said.

She also acknowledged the challenges ahead, saying she was aware that much work remained to be done and expressing confidence that the ministry would achieve positive results under her leadership.

“I hope I will live up to the trust and responsibility that the team has placed in me”, the Minister concluded.
