President Kavelashvili highlights role of education in Georgia’s future as new academic year starts

Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili on Tuesday congratulated school pupils, university students, teachers, professors, lecturers and parents on the start of the new academic year.

“Congratulations on the start of the new academic year. This is a special day for students, teachers and every family in whose daily lives education plays an important role”, he said.

“The education system determines not only an individual’s opportunities but also the future of the country. A strong and independent state is built by a free-thinking and responsible generation that, while respecting its history and national values, possesses the knowledge, skills and ambition to build a better Georgia and respond with dignity to the challenges of the modern world”, the President continued.

Kavelashvili added that it was the responsibility of the state to ensure young people had access to a high-quality education, the opportunity to realise their potential in Georgia and the ability to use the knowledge they acquire to contribute to the country’s development.

“I extend my special gratitude to teachers - the people whose professionalism, national spirit and sense of responsibility play a vital role in shaping every new generation”, he said.

“I wish you a successful and productive academic year”, Kavelashvili concluded.
