Nino Tsilosani, the vice speaker of the Georgian Parliament, on Thursday said that she supported restoring relations with all of Georgia’s strategic partners and friendly countries, although this “should not become an obsession achieved at any cost”.
In her interview with Imedi TV, Tsilosani noted that Georgia has specific conditions for restoring relations, beyond which there are “red lines”.
She also stressed that Georgia’s geopolitical importance and national strength create a natural interest among international partners in normalising relations with the country.
“Our country’s importance on the geopolitical map, as well as its strength, allows us to say that there is also a natural interest from the other side in normalising relations with Georgia. We have many advantages and, most importantly, we have the desire to restore relations with our partners. However, unlike our opponents, I would not view this through the lens of blind obedience”, she said.
Tsilosani added that Georgia’s “red lines” include national values, sovereignty, and the will of the people to preserve the country’s identity.
“We have repeatedly stated that we have specific conditions, beyond which there is already a red line. These are national values, sovereignty, and the people’s demand that this country preserve its identity. We do not have the right to sacrifice this country’s centuries-old history for dazzling promises”, she concluded.
