At a ceremony awarding state honors to members of the Defence Forces, Georgian prime minister Irakli Kobakhidze emphasized his government’s commitment to strengthening the military.

He pledged to equip the army with modern infrastructure and equipment, while ensuring optimal living and working conditions and proper recognition for every soldier, officer, and sergeant.

In his address, Kobakhidze highlighted the role of the Georgian Defence Forces as a key pillar of the country’s independence and sovereignty.

“The Georgian Defence Forces are a reliable pillar of our state’s independence and sovereignty. Today is another recognition by the Georgian state of your tremendous service to the homeland. Peace is the highest priority of our government and our people. It is the main foundation for the country’s progress and development. The main guarantee of peace and security is a strong, modern army with high standards. This strength is based precisely on your military dignity and selfless dedication to your duty”, he said.

The prime minister also underlined his government’s commitment to continuing reforms and modernisation within the military sector, including improving infrastructure, equipment, and conditions for military personnel.

“Today, we express our special gratitude to you. I congratulate each of you on receiving this well-deserved state award - a fair recognition of your daily work and dedication to the homeland. On behalf of the government of Georgia, I promise you continued full support in the future”, Kobakhidze noted.

“We will continue to consistently work on strengthening the Defence Forces so that the army is equipped with modern infrastructure and equipment, and every soldier, officer, and sergeant has the best possible living and working conditions, along with proper appreciation”, he continued.

Georgian parliament speaker Shalva Papuashvili and vice prime minister and defence minister Irakli Chikovani also congratulated the award recipients and praised their service to the country.

The government administration announced that Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili has bestowed the Order of Vakhtang Gorgasali, First Class, upon the Commander of the Defence Forces, Lieutenant General Giorgi Matiashvili. Furthermore, seven additional representatives of the Defence Forces were recognized with various Orders and Medals of Honour.
