Georgian Foreign Ministry says no official explanation received from Germany over Ambassador credentials issue

The Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday confirmed to Imedi TV that the Georgian side has received no official explanation from Germany regarding why the newly appointed Georgian Ambassador has not yet been allowed to present his credentials.
The Ministry further noted that Berlin has failed to update information regarding Georgian Government officials on the official website of the German Federal Foreign Office.
Ambassador Alexander Kartozia was officially appointed as the Ambassador of Georgia to Germany on October 1, 2025, following an agrément issued by the German side on September 10, 2025.
While copies of the credentials were hand-delivered to the German Federal Foreign Office on December 17, 2025, Ambassador Kartozia has still not been granted an audience with the President of Germany to officially complete the accreditation process.
The Georgian MFA expressed deep confusion over the delay, pointing out that other foreign diplomats have faced no such hurdles during the exact same timeframe.
“To our knowledge, since October 1, 2025, the President of Germany has received credentials from newly appointed ambassadors of Lebanon, Bahrain, Ecuador, Ghana, Canada, Nigeria, Indonesia, the Union of the Comoros, the Philippines, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, New Zealand, and Mongolia”, the statement continued.
“The inconsistent approach of the German Federal Foreign Office toward the Georgian state remains entirely unclear to the Georgian side”, the statement said.
Imedi TV has formally reached out to both the German Embassy in Tbilisi and the Federal Foreign Office in Germany regarding the month-long delays surrounding Ambassador Kartozia’s accreditation and the outdated official government data. A response from the German authorities is currently pending.
