Georgian PM, Parliament Speaker nominate national basketball team, federation leadership for Order of Honour

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze and Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili on Friday nominated members of the national basketball team and the Georgian Basketball Federation leadership for the Order of Honour, recognising their historic achievements, including qualifying for the Basketball World Championship and securing a place amongst the world’s top 16 teams.
The Order of Honour will be awarded to national team players, coaching staff, and basketball federation leadership.
Additionally, the Order of Excellence, Georgia’s highest state award for sports, has been nominated for Giorgi Shermadini, a two-time Euroleague champion and Spanish Championship MVP, and Tornike Shengelia, 2019-2020 Spanish Championship winner.
The joint nomination has been submitted to Georgian President Mikheil Kavlashvili for final approval.
