Georgian PM: talks with Pope Leo XIV reinforce Georgia-Vatican relations

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Monday emphasised that meetings with Pope Leo XIV and the Vatican Secretary of State were highly productive, reinforcing the commitment to strengthen and continue close cooperation between Georgia and Vatican.
In his remarks, Kobakhidze noted that this support had been very important since the day of Georgia’s independence restoration.
“Our visit to the Vatican has concluded. I met with Pope Leo XIV, and we had very interesting discussions. Of course, the support of the Vatican and of the Pope of Rome is very important for us. This support has been very significant since the day of our independence restoration, for which I expressed my gratitude to the Pope. The Vatican’s support for our sovereignty and territorial integrity is particularly important, and we emphasized this”, Kobakhidze said.
Kobakhidze also mentioned that the parties discussed the ongoing developments in our country and the challenges facing our nation and the modern world, including the struggle for Christian values.
“We had a very interesting conversation with the Pope about the efforts our country is making in this regard, especially concerning Christian and traditional values.Additionally, today we met with the Secretary of State, where we discussed cooperation between the Vatican and Georgia. We expressed our gratitude to our friends for the support they show toward our country”, the PM noted.
“Here too, we discussed, of course, the challenges facing our country and the issues surrounding it. Very interesting discussions took place. All of this deepens our belief that very close cooperation between Georgia and the Vatican will continue”, he concluded.
