Ruling party Sec Gen denounces MEGOBARI Act as “unfriendly”, reflecting deep state intentions

Kakha Kaladze

Kakha Kaladze, the Mayor of Tbilisi and Secretary General of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Thursday strongly criticised a recently proposed US congressional initiative MEGOBARI Act, labeling it an “unfriendly” bill that aligns with the agenda of the deep state.

In his remarks over the MEGOBARI Act, a bipartisan bill that envisages sanctions against the Georgian Dream Government officials, Kaladze noted that the bill had absolutely no connection to the interests of the Georgian people.

“I will reiterate - the MEGOBARI act has absolutely no connection to the Georgian people or their interests. The majority of our country’s citizens support the Georgian Dream party. The radical part of the opposition, fortunately for the majority of the Georgian people, is in the minority. Agents and traitors can never be the majority, they will always remain where they are - or even lower. However, as the Mayor of the capital city and as a citizen of this country, it does not please me to see even a single citizen of my country in the position that these radical groups currently find themselves in”, he said.

Regarding the legislative initiative, Kaladze described it as an embodiment of the deep state intentions.

“They did not like the decision made by the Georgian people in the 2024 parliamentary elections, and now they are using every method - every form of deception, dishonesty, and injustice - to attack our country”, he continued.

Kaladze further expressed confidence that Georgia and the Georgian people would always be victorious because the truth was on Georgia's side.

“We support President Trump and his team, and we hope he will succeed in defeating the deep state. If he does not, we will, of course, continue to defend Georgia, ensuring that no one - just as they have not been able to until now - can exploit Georgia’s interests for their own gain”, he stressed.

Kaladze concluded by emphasising that Georgian Dream’s pragmatic policies had ensured long-term peace for the country, otherwise, Georgia would have found itself in an even worse situation than Ukraine.
