Georgian Parliament official: Singapore’s experience in logistics, finance, innovation particularly important for Georgia

Irakli Kadagishvili, the Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s Regional Policy and Self-government Committee, on Wednesday said that the Georgian government delegation’s visit to Singapore was timely and offers significant opportunities for cooperation, particularly in logistics, finance, innovation, and connectivity.

In his interview with Imedi TV, Kadagishvili commented on the visit of the Georgian government delegation led by Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze to Singapore.

“This visit is very important and timely. There are good conditions for cooperation. Singapore’s experience in logistics, finance, and innovation is particularly important for Georgia”, Kadagishvili said.

He emphasised the broader importance of Asia as a partner because of its economic potential, growing population, and resources, as well as the interest of European countries in strengthening relations with the region.

“Asia, in terms of its substance, economic potential, growing population, and the resources it possesses, is one of the important partners - not only in terms of relations within the region, but also because European countries, of course, have a significant interest in relations with Asia”, he stressed.

The official further noted that Georgia occupies a unique position in terms of connectivity and has established infrastructure and growing experience that allow it to offer stable partnerships.

“In terms of connectivity, Georgia is the only unique, already established state with experience and infrastructure, continuously growing in this direction, and possessing the strongest capacity to provide stable partnerships. At the same time, Singapore is particularly interesting in this regard. Singapore is especially important for us because it chose a development model that has made it one of the world’s most prominent states in terms of connectivity, a financial hub, and, at the same time, a centre for technological innovation”, he noted.

Kadagishvili highlighted that cooperation with Singapore could be especially valuable for Georgia in the development of ports and other transport infrastructure.

“Therefore, Singapore’s experience and cooperation with it in these areas are very important for us, particularly in logistics, including in terms of the prospects for port infrastructure. Singapore’s port is a port of global importance, and its experience is extremely valuable. In terms of connectivity, anyone who has visited Singapore’s airport knows the scale of the facility and the enormous volume of cargo and passenger traffic it handles. Therefore, its experience in this regard and partnership with Singapore are extremely important for us”, Kadagishvili said.

The official also noted that the visit had a political dimension, saying Singapore had itself experienced a difficult development path and had to protect its national interests and values while becoming one of the world’s most successful states.
