Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili on Monday claimed there were representatives within the European Union and in Brussels who were playing a “somewhat negative role” in maintaining stability in Georgia.

The European Union's High Representative Kaja Kallas had previously expressed concerns over the detention of individuals in Georgia, stating that “we are concerned about the arrests of people in Georgia and are putting pressure on those responsible for violence against peaceful protesters”.

In her remarks, Botchorishvili noted that the statements made by these individuals were often aimed at undermining the very stability that the country needs.

“It is very regrettable that there are representatives in the European Union and in Brussels who have a very narrow view of the current global developments, assess the processes taking place in Georgia very subjectively, and it can be said that they are playing a somewhat negative role in maintaining stability in our country. Their statements are very often aimed precisely at undermining the stability that our country so desperately needs”, the Foreign Minister said.
