Georgian PM says domestic opposition “outsider” not only in politics, but also in public

Georgian prime minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Wednesday criticised certain opposition forces, labeling them “outsiders” not only in the political arena but within Georgian society at large.

In his interview with Imedi TV, Kobakhidze addressed the current political climate, emphasising that the ruling party's engagement with specific groups remains contingent on legal proceedings.

“Their place is actually where they are today. This is the position of an outsider not only in politics, but also in the public. They are outsiders in the Georgian public. This is their current situation and they have brought themselves to this point. The public sees everything very well, the public sees that they are constantly fighting against the national interests of the country, against the authorities, against stability and peace in the country, against prosperity and they do this with concrete actions”, the PM said.

“They opposed what they had almost treated as a religion - European integration. Working groups were created to obtain candidate status, yet they even boycotted this. They declared European integration as a religion and opposed it directly and openly. It is no surprise that such people have zero authority in our society. Therefore, they have assigned themselves their place”, he concluded.
