Georgian Parliament official: Georgia has the same right as other countries to protect itself from external interference

Archil Gorduladze, the chair of the Georgian Parliament’s legal affairs committee, on Thursday said Georgia has the same right as other countries to protect itself from external interference.

Gorduladze commented on Sky News’s report about the possible restriction of foreign donations to politicians and political parties in the UK.

In his remarks, Gorduladze stressed that when countries face challenges similar to those confronting Georgia, they adopt comparable legislative frameworks.

“If other countries have the right to defend themselves against external interference, we have that right as well. Every legislative initiative was labeled ‘Russian’ simply because it was unacceptable to certain actors. Yet when these same countries face challenges similar to Georgia’s, they introduce identical legal mechanisms”, the official said.

“We saw that we were being attacked. Why? Because we, the Georgian Dream team, are not fulfilling the tasks of certain forces, whose main goal is to open a second front in our country, collapse our economy, and unleash bloodshed in our country”, he concluded.
