European Parliament member Tomasz Froelich on Tuesday commented on the German Foreign Ministry’s continued refusal to accept the credentials of Georgia’s Ambassador to Germany, saying that neither Brussels nor Berlin appears willing to accept that Georgia does not want to become “a second Ukraine” and has chosen to uphold Christian and traditional values.
In his interview with Imedi TV, Froelich noted that the move was driven by geopolitical considerations.
“The actions of the German Foreign Minister run counter to diplomatic norms and amount to nothing more than a provocation. It appears that Berlin is unwilling to accept the political reality in Georgia. Such actions constitute a direct challenge to Georgia’s national sovereignty. Clearly, this step is geopolitically motivated”, he said.
“Neither Brussels nor Berlin appears ready to accept the fact that Georgia does not want to become a second Ukraine. They are also dissatisfied with Georgia’s decision to defend Christian and traditional values against the backdrop of what its critics describe as ‘woke ideology’”, the MEP continued.
Froelich further added that Germany should work toward restoring constructive and diplomatic relations with Georgia.
“This includes accrediting Aleksandre Kartozia as ambassador in Berlin and removing Salome Zourabichvili from the list of Georgian presidents on the German Foreign Ministry’s website”, he said.
The Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday confirmed to Imedi TV that the Georgian side has received no official explanation from Germany regarding why the newly appointed Georgian Ambassador has not yet been allowed to present his credentials.
The Ministry further noted that Berlin has failed to update information regarding Georgian Government officials on the official website of the German Federal Foreign Office.
