They also focused on cooperation within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative and the importance of developing the Middle Corridor.
“In the framework of my official visit to attend the 8th China International Import Expo, I had the honour to meet with Li Qiang. We had productive discussions on the solid progress of Georgia- China relations and the deepening of our strategic partnership”, the PM said in a social media message.
Kobakhidze thanked his Chinese counterpart for supporting Georgia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, reaffirming the Georgian Government’s support for the One China principle.
“Relations between Georgia and China have been developing steadily, based on the principles of mutual respect, equality, and cooperation. We sincerely appreciate China’s firm support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as its steadfast commitment to the non-recognition of Georgia’s occupied territories. Georgia supports the One China principle and China’s territorial integrity”, Kobakhidze said.
“This friendship and mutual understanding have naturally been reflected in our dynamic economic cooperation. China ranks among Georgia’s four largest trading partners. The Free Trade Agreement has significantly contributed to the growth of bilateral trade, and Georgia’s exports to China have increased considerably”, he continued.
Kobakhidze emphasised that his Government was also pleased to see the growing trend in freight turnover.
“From January to August 2025, the number of containers transported between China and Georgia through the Middle Corridor increased by 70.6 percent compared to the same period last year. We are ready to deepen cooperation to further increase transport flows between China and Europe through Georgia”, he said.
“Building on these achievements, the investment sector remains one of the key areas with great potential. In the first two quarters of 2025, investments from China to Georgia amounted to $7.43 million, which is 229 percent higher than during the same period last year. We believe this positive dynamic will continue and further strengthen our economic partnership”, the Georgian PM noted.
He also added that historically China had been a central pillar of the Silk Road shaping trade and cultural relations for centuries and as an important part of the Middle Corridor Georgia was ready to expand cooperation with China to further promote regional connectivity and trade
“We believe that the positive dynamic and high-level relations between our countries will continue and grow even stronger, confirming our shared commitment to deepening ties and ensuring the long-term prosperity of our peoples”, Kobakhidze said.
In his turn, the Premier Li Qiang highlighted the importance of Georgia’s participation in the International Import Expo and expressed readiness to further deepen bilateral cooperation across various fields.
“Thank you for participating in the International Import Expo. Georgia is taking part this year for the first time as a guest country of honour, which is a unique opportunity to showcase Georgian products. I am confident that Georgian companies will soon see the benefits of their participation”, the Chinese PM said.
“In recent years, under the strategic guidance of the leaders of our two countries, bilateral relations have developed intensively. In 2023, our nations established a strategic partnership, and since then, mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields has continued to deepen. China is grateful to Georgia for its sincere friendship. We wish to strengthen strategic communication with Georgia, expand practical cooperation, and, through joint efforts, bring even greater benefits to our peoples”, Li noted.
