Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Saturday emphasised that strengthening cooperation with Central Asian countries was of special importance for Georgia, highlighting the country’s role as a vital connector to the Black Sea and Western markets, which would help realise its full economic potential.

In his remarks, Kobakhidze noted that Georgia serves as a bridge linking seven countries to the Black Sea and, by extension, to broader Western economic opportunities, stressing the strategic value of deepening ties with the region.

“Deepening cooperation with Central Asian countries as a whole is of special importance. In this regard, deepening cooperation with Tajikistan is also important. As you know, we recently had a visit to Kyrgyzstan, we will soon have a visit to Kazakhstan, and in July the presidents of Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan will visit Georgia. Accordingly, we have very positive dynamics in relations, and all of this will contribute to the development of our transit function”, he said.

The Prime Minister underlined that investments in transport connectivity and transit infrastructure were already underway, supporting Georgia’s ambition to become a key logistics hub in the region.

“As you know, significant investments are being made in connectivity and strengthening the transit function. At the same time, great importance is attached to the development of relations with neighbouring countries. We have excellent relations with Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Turkey, and we are also actively developing relations with Central Asian countries”, Kobakhidze noted.

He concluded that these developments collectively contribute to Georgia’s ability to better realise its economic potential, describing this as one of the government’s main priorities.

“Based on these processes, Georgia will move much further forward in terms of utilising its economic potential. This is one of our main priorities,” he concluded.
