Georgian FM: Tajikistan highly interested in Georgia’s transit potential

Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili on Saturday described the first high-level Georgian visit to Tajikistan as an important step in expanding bilateral relations, noting that new agreements and the creation of an economic commission would deepen cooperation between the two countries.

In her remarks, Botchorishvili emphasised that this marked the first high-level Georgian visit to Tajikistan, resulting in concrete agreements across multiple areas of cooperation.

“For the first time, a high-level visit from Georgia was carried out to Tajikistan. Meetings were held at the highest level with the Tajik authorities, and agreements were signed in various areas of cooperation, which will create new opportunities for the development of relations between the countries”, she said.

The Foreign Minister also highlighted Tajikistan’s interest in Georgia’s transit potential and the importance of establishing an economic commission format between the two countries.

“Tajikistan is very interested in Georgia’s transit potential. In the current geopolitical environment, what Georgia is doing is of particular importance to them. Their interest is, of course, to transport Tajik cargo through Georgia, and it is very important to develop cooperation in this direction”, Botchorishvili noted.

“During this visit, an agreement was also signed to establish an economic commission. This is a good opportunity for trade and economic issues to be discussed in an institutional framework, within the economic commission”, she concluded.
