Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Friday said that foreign direct investment (FDI) increased by 7.6% in 2025, reaching approximately $1.7 billion, while Georgia’s foreign exchange reserves hit a record high and surpassed $7 billion.

In his annual address to the Georgian Parliament, Kobakhidze noted that the Georgian lari exchange rate remained stable at around $ 2.65 per and had since strengthened to below that level.

“Alongside this, foreign exchange reserves reached a record level and exceeded $7 billion. In May alone, the National Bank purchased a record $633 million in foreign currency reserves. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the National Bank of Georgia for its work”, the PM said.

He also highlighted the active work carried out by the Ministry of Finance in issuing bonds.

“On January 28, the Ministry of Finance placed Eurobonds with a nominal value of USD 500 million on the London Stock Exchange. Demand exceeded the offered volume by 5.5 times, which naturally demonstrates investors’ confidence in the country’s economic policy and economic prospects. The coupon rate was set at 5.125%”, Kobakhidze said.

He added that on May 21, the Ministry of Finance issued treasury bonds with a nominal value of ₾400 million ( USD 148 million), with demand exceeding the offered amount by 4.5 times, the coupon rate was 9%.

“Once again, it should be noted that Georgia maintains the world’s leading position in terms of budget transparency”, he said.

Kobakhidze also noted that during the reporting period, the Ministry of Finance actively cooperated with international financial institutions, particularly the Asian Development Bank, World Bank, and International Monetary Fund.

“Overall, the Ministry of Finance carried out very important work over the past year, for which I would like to express my gratitude to the Minister of Finance”, Kobakhidze concluded.
