Georgian Gov’t operates with full transparency, high-level corruption defeated, says Georgian Prime Minister

The Georgian Government operates with full transparency, with all Government acts being published, while transparency is one of the best safeguards against any form of malpractice, said on Friday Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze during his annual address to the legislative body.

In his remarks, the Prime Minister highlighted the elimination of corruption at the highest level as one of the key achievements of the Government.

“The Georgian Government operates with full transparency. Every government act is published. Transparency is one of the best safeguards against any form of malpractice. We have abandoned various improper practices, such as the direct sale of state property. We have also implemented very important reforms in state-owned enterprises”, he said.

“Overall, all of this has served the fundamental purpose of eradicating corrupt practices from our system of governance. This was one of the main objectives of our work over the past year”, the PM continued.

Kobakhidze further stressed that over the past year the Georgian Government has largely achieved this fundamental goal.

“Once again, I invite anyone, whether an opponent or not, to present even a single case from the reporting period - from last June until now - that raises any suspicion of corruption, and each of us will take full responsibility. I have raised this question on numerous occasions, including during debates, yet our opponents have failed to present a single such case. This is clear evidence for us that corruption at the highest levels of Government has been fundamentally defeated”, he said.

“Of course, the fight against corruption must continue on a permanent basis, particularly at the lower levels, and naturally, the Government will not relax its attention in this regard in the future. However, I can once again confidently state that corruption at the highest levels of government has been principally eliminated and defeated, and this is one of the Georgian Government’s most significant achievements over the past year”, the Prime Minister concluded.
