Georgian PM: Georgia expanded its economic lead over Moldova by $13.5 billion in five years

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Friday emphasised the country's economic growth, saying over the past five years, the gap between the economies of Georgia and Moldova increased by $13.5 billion.

In his annual address to the Georgian Parliament, Kobakhidze noted that the loans granted to Moldova over the years had not helped it improve its own economic performance.

“We often compare our economy with the economy of Moldova, which is also a candidate country for EU membership. I would like to tell you that over the past five years, the difference between the economies of Georgia and Moldova has increased by $13.5 billion. This means that the difference between our budgets has increased by $3.5 billion”, the PM said.

“You know that Moldova is constantly reminded of the loans it has been given over the past years. Even these loans do not help Moldova improve its own economic indicators. Over the past five years, we have surpassed Moldova in terms of the difference between economies by $13.5 billion, between budgets by $3.5 billion, which in itself speaks volumes”, he concluded.
