Georgian PM: Georgia launches work on new Defence Forces 2035 development document

Work has begun on the updated long-term development strategy - Defence Forces 2035 - with significant progress made under the total defence approach in strengthening the capabilities of the Defence Forces, the institutional framework of the Ministry of Defence, the military industry, international cooperation, and interagency coordination, said on Friday Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze during his annual address to the legislative body.
In his remarks, Kobakhidze noted that Georgia further strengthened its cybersecurity monitoring system, while military units were equipped with modern medical vehicles.
“With regard to defence, work has begun on the updated long-term development strategy, Defence Forces 2035. Within the framework of the total defence approach, significant steps have been taken to enhance the capabilities of the Defence Forces, strengthen the institutional framework of the Ministry of Defence, develop the military industry, expand international cooperation, and improve inter-agency coordination”, he said.
“The introduction of anti-armour weapon systems continued, while contractual obligations related to the acquisition of new air defence systems were implemented in phases. The modernisation of intelligence units with advanced systems also continued, alongside the upgrading of existing artillery capabilities. Efforts to strengthen combat engineering capabilities were maintained”, the PM continued.
Kobakhidze added that the Defence Forces received both cargo vehicles and light off-road transport.
“A large-scale project for the integration and development of unmanned and counter-unmanned systems was underway, while military units continued to be equipped with modern tactical radio systems. The cybersecurity monitoring system was reinforced, and units were supplied with modern medical vehicles”, he said.
“At Delta, the production and delivery of ballistic helmets and body armour to the Ministry continued without interruption”, the PM continued.
Kobakhidze highlighted that Delta WB was continuing the development and testing of prototypes of unmanned aerial systems for various purposes.
“Construction and rehabilitation works were carried out at 180 military facilities. The construction of modern-standard bases for the Special Operations Command, as well as the Aviation and Air Defence Commands, has been completed”, he noted.
“This is only a partial list of the measures implemented in the field of defence”, the Prime Minister concluded.
